The Little Things Are the Big Things

It’s so easy for couples to look towards romantic getaways and grand gestures to think that’s what reflects a couple who is truly thriving.

However, as lovely as those things could be, the truth is…

…thriving relationships are, most of all, about the little everyday moments that communicate to one another…

I care.⁣

I love you.⁣

I appreciate you.⁣

Your heart is safe with me.⁣

You are a priority and deeply important to me.⁣

I am in this with you.⁣

You have space to become who you truly are, not simply the version I want you to be.

Your feelings matter.

Life is easier and more fun when we do it together.⁣

I am committed to doing my part to help us thrive.⁣

I will protect our love.

We’ve got this.

I’m your biggest fan.

We invite you to read them again, and reflect:

“Are my words, tone, and actions communicating these things to my partner most days?”

If not…

…today is the perfect moment to start.

Here are 20 everyday ideas for how to infuse a little more love into your day…

1. Send a “thinking of you” text just because you love them and want to brighten their day.

2. When you notice yourself getting in your head too much, take a deep breath, and drop into your heart, and try connecting from that place instead.

3. Take some quiet moments to reflect on what the relationship needs from you in order to keep growing into its greatest potential.

4. Express appreciation.

5. Ask your partner if you can help them with something they would otherwise do on their own.

6. Aim to always be filling your relationship’s “love account” with a ratio of 20:1 positive to negative interactions.

7. Take just 20 seconds for a little love-boosting hug. Hugging for at least 20 seconds releases oxytocin, the bonding chemical. You will physiologically feel more connected when you do this.

8. Be intentional about the first words you say to your beloved in the morning and the last words you say before sleep. These can really set the tone for hours to come.

9. Light a candle during a meal, and remember everyday is a special occasion if you create it to be.

10. Do something for the pure purpose of fun together, and put logistics and to-do lists to the side for even ten minutes.

11. Leave a little love note for your sweetheart to find — in their bag, on the bathroom mirror or fridge, on their car seat, etc.

12. Reflect on your day together before falling asleep, and each share your “high” and your “low.”

13. Say something encouraging to your partner.

14. Ask your partner, with a genuinely open heart, if they need anything or if you can do anything for them.

15. Go outside and look at the stars or a tree or flower together. Hold each other, and relax into a moment of wonderment.

16. Learn something new together. Read a few pages of a book, watch a video on YouTube, listen to a podcast, or watch a documentary. Be sure you are continually growing together, not apart.

17. Take a few moments to dream about something you want to experience in the future. Get excited together.

18. When your partner is talking about something, go above and beyond to communicate to them that you are their #1 fan and fully have their back.

19. Think about some small gesture of kindness you can do for someone else — and then go do it, together.

20. Look at some photos of positive memories. Relive some of those experiences in a positive and bonding way.

Of course, there are literally hundreds of small actions we can take — that make a BIG difference, especially when done consistently, day after day.

May you take some inspired action today, and know that we’re cheering you on as you do!
